Blog Journal 1- Introduction

 Blog Journal # 1- Intro

My name is Zoie and I am a sophomore at Florida State University. I grew up in Orlando, FL, and chose to go to FSU because I loved the atmosphere and campus. I am majoring in Communications Sciences and Disorders and hope to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I am also minoring in education and child development. I am looking forward to this course to learn how educational technology applies to my future profession.

Besides using technology throughout the years in my education and taking intro computer classes, I don't know much about using technology in an educational setting. Some skills I already have are Microsoft programs like Word and PowerPoint. In this course, I hope I can further my skills with specific programs like Excel and learn about new programs that can help in education. I hope to continue to learn about how we can use technology to help educate others as well as educate ourselves on various topics.

When there is a skill or hobby I would like to explore more or learn more about, I can utilize Personal Learning Networks to help me in that. One skill I am currently working on is learning American Sign Language. Some resources I use to support my learning goals are online sources like youtube and social media. I can use these sources to learn specific signs that I need to know quickly or to clear up any confusion I might have. Some offline sources I use to support my learning are the ASL course I am taking at FSU. This includes any course material, my professors, or peers. These are so important since the best way to learn ASL is to practice conversation. So working in person with my peers or professors can really be helpful.

  1. In addition to Microsoft products, we will look into social media and online tools that can help students learn and teachers grow professionally. You've also highlighted many online resources you've used to expand your expertise. We will also go over how to assess the quality and reliability of internet information. I'm excited to see how your PLN develops over the course of this semester :)
