One of the first-grade ELA technology standards is that the students should be able to ask and answer questions about a read-aloud from a text or about any oral material. The technology used in this standard could be audiobooks or interactive storybooks. I do feel prepared to implement this standard because I am familiar with the concept of audiobooks and audio files. I sometimes listen to podcasts, so I feel like I would be able to find some related to what the students are learning so that they can feel comfortable asking and answering questions about what they are hearing. I could use different educational websites and also use my smartphone so that the students can listen. I could also familiarize myself with the StoryBook website to help students listen and identify key details.
In the Educator Tool Access Kit, I chose to use a resource from the first grade standards in the language arts subject. The resource I chose is called Detecting Capitals. This is an interactive game, in which students will act as detectives and select which words will start with a capital letter. They will be presented with pronoun "I", proper nouns, days of the week, or months and will have to capitalize where it is appropriate. I will use this resource because it goes with the first-grade standard, demonstrating standard English conventions for the word "I" and other proper nouns. This is important because it will give the students an opportunity to practice their grammar and reading skills and also see how these skills can be connected to everyday life. It is also a fun game, so it can keep the students engaged.
It is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because especially in higher grade levels, part of a teacher's job is to provide resources for students to utilize to learn or to use for assignments. It is important that teachers can search for these materials on the internet to help support their students and also teach their students how to search online for reliable sources. Aside from using the internet for assignment resources, learning how to search online efficiently can help teachers find the information they need quickly. It can save them time when trying to find answers to questions that may arise and it can also give the teacher extra resources. Of the internet searching skills, we learned this week in class, I will probably use the keyword skill the most. This will be the most helpful because it will help me to refine my search and help me find exactly what I'm looking for.
