Twitter has been a very useful resource over the years in my education. I have used Twitter a lot already throughout EME2040 and have learned useful information on how I can use Twitter to learn. Twitter is a great resource to expand my personal learning network and collaborate with others to expand my knowledge. I have followed accounts like the American Speech and Hearing Association or ASHA, Florida States' National Speech and Hearing Association or FSUNSHLLA, and I have followed other accounts about speech pathology. These accounts are helpful to my PLN because they allow me to hear the experiences of other people in the Speech Pathology field and learn more about different aspects of the field. This can help my future career because it can provide me opportunities to get to know others and also can provide me with advice when applying to grad school.
The digital divide refers to the gap that can be found between people with and without access to technology. Some people may not have access to the internet because of economic disparities or other reasons which can lead to an increasing divide in education and knowledge. The digital divide can impact a student in the classroom because the students that don't have access to technology that might be used in the classroom as a resource to learn may not be familiar with the technology and know how to use it. For assignments that utilize technology, students might do worse on the assignments because they don't have access to that technology. This can cause a gap in academics and put other students behind. As a teacher that may have experience with this issue, this will impact my teaching because I will try to make the assignments as versatile as possible. For example, having a paper copy for all homework and practice assignments rather than just having students submit online. I also think it is important as a teacher to be able to support those students without technology to get the help they need.
Academic software for students is software that is available to students to support them in their education. These can provide extra curriculum practice or facilitate communication with instructors and peers. One academic software that I hope I can use in my future classroom is BlackBoard. This is an online program that allows students to communicate with their peers and instructors. It can be used for things like discussion boards and student can post their own opinions or ask any questions for clarity. I would like to use this program because it is a great resource for students to ask questions and articulate their own ideas. Another academic software I am interested in using in my future classroom is Canvas. This is a website that is great for posting assignments and resources students can use. It can allow teachers to easily input grades and set up their own classroom, except online.
